About and Introduction

by Deb C
From discounts and travel to housing and helpful technology, Baby Boomers have a cornucopia of delights to enjoy.

I’m Debbie. I’m a Baby Boomer. (My name is a give-away – lots of Debbies in this generation.) I’m also an empty nester, and a member of the “sandwich generation.” I’ve decided to ease my foot up the pedal of work and life. I want to explore, savor, and share what’s available for those over 50. I invite you to join me.

Baby Boomer Debbie

I’ve run a small non-profit, worked in libraries for over 20 years and done local marketing for large corporations. I also owned an antique and “unique” consignment shop for 12 years. I’ve also written dozens and dozens of free-lance articles on antiques and collectibles and history-related subjects, particularly vintage fashion. I attended and reported about the pilot and first years of Antiques Roadshow on PBS. I’ve often been working on two jobs or assignments so there was over-lap. Along the way I was a community activist and co-founded two neighborhood associations. I also served on town and community committees, and ran a community website. I was a history major in college and belong to several historical societies.

I’m married to my best friend, with two grown children, and an 89+ year old mother in assisted living. After finding the right facility for her and cleaning out and selling her house with the help of my three siblings and family, I took stock. I realized I have to let go of old habits, try new things, explore, and even take a few risks. I’ve been realizing that there are a lot of benefits to having five decades and more under your belt. Now I’m going to check them out and write about them.
