Opening Up Grandmother’s Trunk on Substack
I’ve started writing on Substack. My newsletter is called “What’s in Grandmother’s Trunk” and the website to go with it is grandmotherstrunk.substack.com.
I’ve had this blog for a while, but I hope to find more of my community on Substack. I’ve found blogging to be more constricting as far as formatting and various applications that either come with WordPress or are highly recommended in order to follow legalities and keep bad actors out. I’d like to spend my energies and focus and not on mechanics and Substack so far seems easier in that regard. And I don’t like putting ads in my blog which interrupts the flow and with Substack, I don’t have to do that.
Why the name “What’s in Grandmother’s Trunk?”
My business and my free-lance writing career started while I was the owner of a consignment shop called “Grandmother’s Trunk” that specialized in antiques and collectibles as well as vintage clothing. As I started publishing pamphlets and guides, and moved on to booklets and books, I called my publishing business “Grandmother’s Trunk Press.” You can find more information and some of my books on my website: grandmothertrunk.com. I also have an Etsy shop: Grandmotherstrunkus
What’s in Grandmother’s Trunk on Substack
To start, I’m trying sections that I hope will bring a smile as well as sharing my collection of vintage photos and ephemera, fun and odd facts and trivia, books I’m reading, and my writing journey. Not to mention life through the eyes of a Baby Boomer grandmother whose had a number of jobs and somewhat unexpected experiences for a small town girl.
I was a witness in an attempted murder trial, for example. And a relative set fire to my parents’ house.
If you visit my newsletter/website on Substack, you will see that my blogposts have been pulled into it. That’s another great thing about Substack. I didn’t have to cut and paste them in order to save them and have continuity.
An invitation to read What’s in Grandmother’s Trunk on Substack
So, whether or not you have been reading this blog, following it, or stumbled across it, I invite you to check out my Substack newsletter. You can sign up for it, or not. I promise that I won’t bombard you with frequent emails. I take my time when I craft each post and try to verify what I refer to in my musings. Right now I include trivia, a fun fact, book review and a vintage photograph or image as well as a story from my past.
I hope you will check it out. And perhaps give me feedback. Thank you for reading this.
